These 6 ultra-nutritious foods will help your body ovulate better


For the ladies trying to get pregnant: if you can get your body to ovulate better and more consistently, that’s half the battle won. There are a plethora of ways in which you can promote healthy ovulation, such as taking oral medication; however, for a natural and safe option, try re-working your diet to include these 6 nutritious and fertility-boosting foods.

#1: Oysters


We’ve previously mentioned oysters in our article on foods that help increase sperm count – and as it turns out, oysters are also helpful to women who are facing problems with fertility. It’s the zinc present in oysters which promotes ovulation; if you don’t fancy the taste or you’re allergic to seafood, zinc can also be found in eggs, pumpkin seeds, and baked beans.

#2: Honey


Honey is commonly used as a cure for infertility in Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest forms of medicine originating from India. Tradition aside, its efficacy has also been tested in modern studies – such as the one published in the Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition in 2010. According to this study (and many others), honey is found to stimulate women’s ovaries, and contribute to regular ovulation.

#3: Maca root


Maca root (commonly sold to consumers in the form of Maca powder) is a powerful fertility food which is grown in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Research from an American study showed that the potency of maca lies in these two compounds that it contains – macamides and macaenes – which promote ovulation in women, and increase libido in both sexes. Consumption is easy – simply add the powder into your coffee, juice, or smoothie and drink it as per normal!

#4: Leafy greens


Leafy greens such as spinach, kale, arugula, romaine, and butterhead all contain plenty of Vitamin B, which is one of the most important vitamins for women who are hoping to get pregnant. Essentially, Vitamin B assists the release of your egg, as well as implantation – so try your best to reduce your intake of meat, and load up on leafy vegetables instead!

#5: Pineapple


There are those who say that pineapples can induce miscarriages, but that’s just an old wives’ tale. Pineapple is actually great for those who are trying to get pregnant, because it contains bromelain, an enzyme which thickens your uterine lining and makes it easier for implantation to occur. For best results, eat fresh and raw pineapple – don’t go for anything that’s cooked or canned!

#6: Avocado


Avocado is rich in vitamin E, and this will help nourish developing your ovarian follicles, which are fluid-filled sacs that contain your immature eggs. Once your follicles are sufficiently matured, ovulation will be able to occur – so keep plenty of avocados (sweet potatoes and cold-pressed oils are similarly effective) on hand to help this process along as much as possible.
